An Acceptable Solution is a predefined, prescriptive compliance option developed by Taumata Arowai primarily for smaller-scale supplies. Whilst it doesn't suit all applications, in many cases it offers a practical, simple, cost-effective and low-admin way to meet Water Services Act 2021 requirements.

Who can use an Acceptable Solution?

There are three Acceptable Solutions for roof water, springs & bores, and mixed-use rural supplies. Eligibility depends on specific criteria, such as population size and the number of buildings served. Take the quiz below to see if this is a viable option for your supply.

Benefits of Acceptable Solutions

Suppliers using an Acceptable Solution don’t need to follow the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules, create a Drinking Water Safety Plan, or create a Source Water Risk Management Plan. This simplifies compliance and reduces administrative burden, making it a practical option for eligible suppliers.

Implementation requirements:

Perform water testing where required. Fully implement the chosen Acceptable Solution as specified. Notify Taumata Arowai via Hinekōrako, the online self-service portal. Maintain ongoing compliance with all Acceptable Solution requirements.
